Hi I’m Steve general dogsbody and publisher of this site
I have worked in the steel industry for over thirty years, being based for most of my life in South Yorkshire, which is still a manufacturing centre for special steels. After some five years spent in the production planning department in Brinsworth Hot Rolling mill, I went on to join the sales department where for the next ten years I sold hot and cold rolled strip to a variety of end users.
I left British Steel (later Corus) to form my own company specialising in the supply of small quantities of carbon and alloy strip. During this time I worked with supply partners in Italy, Switzerland, Spain and the USA, evntually selling up to 10,000 tonnes a year to end users and service centres.
During my time as a mill representative I spent a lot of time dealing with steel stockholders and service centres, and receiving enquiries through our website asking for help in sourcing small quantities of steel strip. Whilst it is relatively easy to get hold of the odd sheet of commercial mild steel from any number of local merchants I realised that sourcing small quantities of more specialised grades was a problem.
It was this realistion that brought about the decision to change direction away from supplying the larger companies who are relatively well served by existing supply networks to providing a service to smaller engineering and manufacturing companies who have much lower volume requirements.
It is almost two years since I took this decision, during which time we have built up a comprehensive range of carbon, alloy and stainless spring steel strip, shim steel and sheet. Additionally, relationships we have built up with customers and suppliers enable us to offer assistance with small batch spring production and small run laser profiles.
Sheffield born I spent some time in Shropshire, but returned to South Yorkshire where I continue to run BSS Steelstrip, as well as maintaining Steel Strip Resources,
Away from steel I love all types of music, travel, fishing , photography, reading, (SF, humour, Biographies and Travelogues) and my family.
